Laughlin Center for Wound Care announces that Misty Walters, RN, Clinical Director of the Center, will be the guest speaker at Passport 55 on May 19, at 10:00 a.m. The presentation will be held at the Roby Adult Center located on 203 College Street in Greeneville, TN.Photo: Misty Walters, RN, Clinical Director of Laughlin Center for Wound Care
Walters will focus her presentation on skin and how it is affected by the aging process. She will also provide information on special care requirements for diabetic patients, as well as signs and symptoms to watch for that could possibly lead to trouble and ways to prevent wounds in everyday activities.
Walters said, “We are excited to offer a program that focuses on wound prevention, all while providing education on common issues that could affect anyone’s overall health and the health of their family members.”
The program material will also address the services offered at Laughlin Center for Wound Care. The hospital’s Wound Center specializes in the treatment of problem wounds, a growing issue spurred by the aging of America and the increase in diabetes. For most people, cuts and scratches heal within days or weeks. But for those whose natural healing process is hampered, a simple sore can become a complex medical problem requiring specialized care.
The Laughlin Center for Wound Care is an out-patient, hospital-based program that works in conjunction with the patient’s primary care physician, serving as an adjunctive service for the referring physician and specializing in the treatment of problem wounds.
Brochures on skin care will be available at the program, plus samples of lotion, as well as writing pens for everyone.
Passport 55 is a health-related program open to the public as a free community service. It is presented each month in partnership with Roby Adult Center by Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
