NEWS RELEASE - January 5, 2017 - Contact: Betty S. Weemes..787-5117
Weight loss is always a popular New Year’s resolution and health information at the Passport 55 program on Thursday, January 19, at 10:00 a.m., will focus on making good decisions about eating. “New Year’s Diet Resolutions….a Good Idea or Not” will be discussed as Ashley Self, MS, RD, LDN, Registered Dietitian, at Laughlin Memorial Hospital, encourages a broader look at dieting. She will ask: Do we set ourselves up to fail when we make extreme resolutions? Is there a better, slower approach, as we make sustainable changes to support good health throughout the year? Self said that “diet” is not the appropriate word to use when wanting to lose weight; one must first make “healthy” lifestyle changes, then set small, realistic goals in order to achieve an ultimate goal. “Small steps lead to big outcomes and a healthier you,” she said. She will offer suggestions/tips to help you keep the resolution(s) you have made for yourself in 2017.
Attendees will receive important educational information about weight loss and healthy eating habits, compliments of Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
Additionally, Ms. Self has selected a book from the LMH Health Information Library to be recognized as a part of Passport 55. The book is entitled, “One Pot Cookbook” by Weight Watchers and will be used as an encouragement for goal setters to prepare easy recipes in this cookbook. “One Pot Cookbook” can be checked-out, along with hundreds of other health related books at the Health Information Library, located in Laughlin Center for Women’s Health. Books, videos, magazines, newsletters, and more on health-related issues are available at the Health Information Library. Membership is free.
Passport 55 is a health-related, free program, open to the public as a community service. It is presented each month at Roby Adult Center, 203 College Street by Laughlin Memorial Hospital in partnership with the Adult Center.
